World Literature at Peter Harrington
Though not strictly an art show, Peter Harrington’s World Literature catalogue show includes an original watercolour of a Paris sunset by the American poet EE Cummings. He spent much of his time travelling in Europe between the wars, often staying in Paris where he associated with Picasso and the Surrealists. Signed and dated Paris ’33 to the reverse, the painting is offered for £2750. It comes from a collection of the writer’s works which his daughter donated to Luthi-Peterson Camps to sell as fundraisers.
The Mayfair show comprises rare books from around the world with a particular focus on cross-cultural materials.
Cedric Morris at Richard Green Fine Paintings
Richard Green Fine Paintings stages Cedric Morris: Fierce Flowers to coincide with the Chelsea Flower Show. Morris (1889-1982) was a British artist who specialised in flower paintings. The vivid colours he used were applied in thick paint laid down systematically from top left to bottom right without underdrawing. A keen gardener, he usually painted more as autumn approached and there were fewer practical tasks to be undertaken in the garden. The show runs until June 11 at the New Bond Street Gallery.
Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing
Opened last week, the highly publicised exhibition at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, features more than 200 drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. The works are selected from the holdings of the Royal Collection and explore the Renaissance master’s interest in painting, sculpture, architecture, engineering, geology, botany and more.
Modern British Art at The Redfern Gallery
Back in Mayfair, Redfern Gallery’s Spring Exhibition has its final days next week, before it ends on May 31. It includes paintings and sculpture by artists such as Paul Feiler, Ivon Hitchens and Eileen Agar. Following it is an exhibition of the works of Royal Academician John Carter, from June 5-July 6. The gallery is closed from May 25-27.
Pangolin Sculpture Trail
Check in at King’s Cross gallery Pangolin London to pick up a map of its sculpture trail. This includes works by artists of the past and present within the gallery and along the canalside at Kings Place. Works are changed occasionally and the artists currently represented include Steve Dilworth, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom and Charlotte Mayer.
