The expansion will create 10 jobs and increase its sale space to 72,500 sq ft in its home city where it has been operating for more than 50 years. John Pye Auctions also recently opened its second largest auction facility, in Chesterfield - 233,000 sq ft of sale space across 14 salerooms.

The company comprises six trading departments: property, retail, business assets, vehicles, luxury and technical.

Unique Auctions believes its auctioneer Terry Woodcock should be recognised for his marathon efforts of auctioneering.

During its 9th New Year’s Day sale earlier this year he offered 1501 lots over 14 hours and 20 minutes of continuous ‘live’ auctioneering.

Unique said the auction attracted more than 1658 worldwide bidders from over 41 countries including Australia, the US, Vietnam, China and South Korea.

Its 10th New Year’s Day Auction is already scheduled for January 1,  2020.

Bamfords auctioneer James Lewis will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous auction taken by a single auctioneer in June.

Phillips is to target California with the appointment of Sophia Kinell as a regional representative in San Francisco. Kinell joined Phillips in 2017 following a 10-year career at Sotheby's in New York.

She will work with Phillips’ specialists across all departmental categories as well as both private and institutional clients throughout the Bay area.

Her most recent position at Phillips was international head of proposals, overseeing a global team and developing bespoke, business-winning pitches for Phillips’ major private, institutional and museum clients.

Dix Noonan Webb has launched 360° viewing technology on its website for its online catalogues. The first to use it is the auction of Jewellery, Watches and Objects of Vertu on March 26.
