It will apply as the standard Full Traditional Hallmark. The date letter changes annually on January 1 every year and the last time a ‘u’ letter date was used as the official mark was 1994.
The font, case and shield shape all change so each hallmark can only indicate one specific year. All date punches are destroyed at the end of the year.
Hallmarking dates back over 700 years and represents Britain’s oldest form of consumer protection.
