The Mayfair dealership supplied the pieces for the film of the historical drama which follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the family’s Edwardian country house.

The items featured are a Victorian diamond foliate tiara worn by Dowager Countess played by Maggie Smith; a late Victorian diamond tiara worn by Lady Edith played by Laura Carmichael; and an Edwardian diamond tiara worn by Lady Cora played by Elizabeth McGovern.

The film will be set in 1927 and Ilias Kapsalis at Bentley & Skinner said: “Tiaras really reached their peak in popularity towards the end of the 19th century and during the early years of the 20th century, when wealthy families such as the Crawleys would have been investing in these pieces to signify their affluence and high status in polite society.”

The TV series, created by writer Julian Fellowes, was first aired in 2010.

Established in 1880, Bentley & Skinner has been supplying jewellery to the royal family since the latter part of Queen Victoria’s reign.
