DMG Antique Fairs have reconfirmed their commitment to the new three-day format Newark fairs for 2005. Acknowledging that many people had voiced strong views that had not gone unheard, managing director Jason Franks emphasised dmg’s long-term commitment to the fair in terms of promotion and investment linked to a weekend slot.

NEXT year Arthur Swallow Fairs’ International Antiques and Collectors’ Fairs at RAF Swinderby will be held almost a full week before the Newark fair.

FROM February 2005, the Newark International Antiques and Collectors Fair, the largest event of its kind in Europe, will become a three-day event, starting on Thursday and finishing on Saturday.

FOLLOWING the well-received introduction of master classes to their events last year, DMG Antiques Fairs, the UK’s biggest organiser of the biggest fairs, will be repeating the initiative at 12 of their summer fixtures. Mike Turner, marketing controller at the fairs, says: “The master classes are designed to appeal to both experienced and amateur collectors which is why we hold them during general entry times.”

ONE thing you cannot accuse DMG Antiques Fairs of is resting on their laurels. Their Newark International Antiques & Collectors Fair, held six times a year at the Nottinghamshire showground, is Europe’s biggest.

The organisers of the Newark fair have taken a tough stance on stallholders who leave their two-day event early. The clampdown comes after complaints from both stallholders and visitors who object to dealers leaving the fair before the official closing time of 4pm on Tuesday.

THE organisers of next week’s Newark fair have been receiving calls from traders and buyers, who have heard that the event will only be open for one day because of the Queen Mother’s funeral on Tuesday.
