New firm will auction books

A new auction house specialising in books has opened in London with a first sale planned for June.

Bloomsbury Book Auctions has been formed by three former Sotheby’s book experts, Lord John Kerr, Davis Stagg and Frank Herrmann, and the declared objective of the new firm is to sell mainly books costing less than £500.

Bloomsbury Book Auctions thrived first in Bloomsbury and then in Mayfair.

Later owned by Bernard Shapero, and The Fine Art Auction Group in 2011, the firm was been hit by staff defections in 2016. The debut auction at the new premises in Pall Mall will be on April 27.
