Criminals broke the locks and entered the premises in late March and stole items including Tang and Song ceramics and Ming and Qing porcelain.
The Amsterdam police have been informed and are investigating the case.
The victim of the theft is dealer Edward Pranger of Pranger Oriental Art. His items, valued at over £1m, had been kept in a separate 2100 sq ft compartment in the building.
However, he has been told that, because the alarm system was deemed inadequate, his ‘all risk’ insurance policy would not cover the loss.
Pranger, who has been a dealer for more than 25 years, hopes to highlight this issue so other dealers are aware of the limits of insurance.
Items taken by the robbers include a set of 10 Kangxi period blue and white dishes with erotic scenes (one pictured), an 18th century silver and gold inlaid bronze phoenix vase on wheels and a large Kangxi period (1662-1722) blue and white bowl.
The items were in a number of boxes and some items were taken incomplete including two jars, three covers and one vase from a five-piece garniture.
All the pieces have been registered with the Art Loss Register and the dealer is calling on the trade to be alert.
