The April 25 sale of Fine Silver, Snuff Boxes and Bonbonnieres at the Salisbury saleroom of Woolley & Wallis features this rare Victorian Irish silver ’castletop’ card case by John Schriber, Dublin 1863. It comes from the Arthur Holder collection.

Featuring Dun Laoghaire (formerly Kingstown) harbour, the front of the card case shows a view of the harbour entrance with a ship in the port. The 4in (10cm) long case with a cartouche is engraved with a viscount’s coronet of the crest of Menteith of Scotland and Hodge(s) and Hodgekins of England, but is absent from official Irish records. It is inscribed From Schriber and Sons 1864 and comes with an estimate of £3000-4000.
