Titled Weary, the drypoint on Japan paper dates from 1863 and is offered in the 19th century section of a sale that spans works by Old Masters such as Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt, Martin Schoengauer and Goya through to 20th century masters including Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky.

Whistler’s print depicts Joanna Hiffernan, the artist’s red-headed mistress who was the sitter for his famous painting Symphony in White. The 7½ x 5¼in (20 x 13 cm) print is a rare work, one of only 10 impressions to have surfaced at auction in the past 30 years. It is estimated at $40,000-60,000.
