This quatre libellules (four dragonflies) gemset gold pendant necklace, pictured above, features his trademark semi-precious stones (opals) and the delicate plique à jour technique of enamelling to create the translucency of the insects’ wings.
Offered in a sale held by Thierry de Maigret (22% buyer’s premium) at Drouot on November 29, the pendant is also set with old and rose-cut diamonds and suspended from a chain of enamelled batons stamped with Lalique’s mark, and comes with its case.
The necklace was acquired by a Parisian couple c.1900 and had passed down through their descendants.
Estimated at €25,000-30,000, it sold at €145,000 (£131,820).
