The English athlete Emil Voigt (1883-1973) wore this competitor’s cloth badge at the 1908 London Olympic Games. The Manchester-born runner won the gold medal for the ‘five miles race’ and became the second and last Olympic champion in the event. It was replaced in 1912 by the 5000 and 10,000 metre races.
