A large collection of clocks owned by a West Country family who loaned pieces to Buckland Abbey in Devon will be offered at Plymouth Auction Rooms on July 19.
On offer is this pendulum regulator bracket example which has a prize remontoire escapement and is inscribed J Aitken, Fecit, London. The mechanism is described in the 1964 book It’s About Time by Paul Chamberlain.
In a simple ebonised case, the clock dates from c.1824 and is estimated at £1000-1500.
This pair of mustard pots by silversmith Edward Farrell (1775-1850) will feature at Chiswick Auctions on July 19.
Made in the Teniers style, each 4in (10cm) high pot is embossed with scenes in high relief of Dutch houses and cast with figures at leisure and a a bird pecking a gourd finial.
Estimate £1500-2000.
Painted by Russian artist Nina Sergeevna (1901-88), this still-life with a canal in the background carries an £800-1200 estimate in Moore Allen & Innocent’s July 7 sale in the Cotswolds.
Flowers in the Window, a 2ft 7in x 3ft 3in (80cm x 1m) oil on canvas dated 1987, forms part of a 100-lot collection of 20th century Russian art by both known and unknown artists which was amassed by a single owner.

Tennants’ Summer Fine Art sale on July 15 will include nearly 70 lots of oak furniture made locally in Yorkshire by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson (1876-1955).
Offered in the mixed-owner group is a large consignment from the Scarborough Campus at the University of Hull. Built in 1909, the campus was designed by Scarborough-born Fred Rowntree, a notable Arts & Crafts architect. From 1948-93 it became home to the North Riding College, which commissioned furniture from Thompson, and latterly Alan ‘Acorn’ Grainger, another Yorkshire furniture maker.
Thompson’s simple, well-constructed and durable designs were made into refectory tables, benches and a unique tea trolley, while this set of six oak chairs is estimated at £600-900.
