Wright Marshall’s June 3 sale in Knutsford will feature a clutch of pictures by French Impressionist Pierre Adolphe Valette (1876-1942).
Valette was an art tutor at the Municipal School of Art in Manchester, where he taught and influenced LS Lowry.
The six-lot group has been consigned from the collection of Mario and Rosemary Perera, who bought paintings from Andrea Valette, the artist’s second wife.
This 19 x 15in (49 x 38cm) pencil and charcoal self-portrait from 1912 was exhibited at the City of Salford Art Galleries exhibition of Valette’s paintings, drawings and etchings from the Perera collection in 1984.
Estimate £8000-10,000.
Vintage posters specialist Onslows will include this poster for Vienna in its sale on July 7.
Designed by Frank Newbould (1887-1951) c.1925, the lithograph in colours measures 3ft 4in x 4ft 2in (1.02 x 1.27m) and was printed for the London and North Eastern Railway by McCorquodale. It is estimated at £4000-6000.
A collection of more than 30 original works from the studio of Cornish abstract artist Gwyther Irwin (1931-2008) features in the June 15 sale at WH Lane & Son in Penzance.
Consigned from the artist’s estate, the group dates from the late 1980s to ‘90s when Irwin was producing large and colourful acrylic paintings and watercolours. This was a move away from his earlier best-known works assembled from newsprint and fragments of advertisements on paper.
Among the highlights is Gwithycombe, a large 4ft x 5ft (1.21 x 1.52cm) watercolour signed and dated to 1989. It is estimated at £5000-8000.
