This round onyx nicolo ring, possibly carved with a mother and child, is priced at £225 from CJ Martin Coins Ancient & Oriental in London.

The characteristic translucent bluish grey colour of nicolo in onyx is achieved by carving through the thin top layer of design into the thicker layer of black material beneath, imbuing the design with a blue tint.

Illustrated by Danish artist Kay Nielsen (1886-1957), this c.1925 limited edition of Hansel and Gretel will feature at Potteries Auctions on June 10-11 in Staffordshire.

The fairy tale classic is accompanied by other Brothers Grimm stories and is estimated at £100-200.

This sterling silver spoon, made to commemorate the St Louis World’s Fair in 1904, is priced at £275 from Wax Antiques in London.

The handle is modelled as a Native American and the bowl depicts the Temple of Fraternity, a vast conference building in the centre of the exhibition complex. Made in America, c.1904, the spoon is stamped on the reverse with Sterling and a flag.

St Louis hosted the fair to celebrate the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase from France in 1803. It opened in the present-day Forest Park on April 30, 1904, and closed that December. There were more than 1500 buildings, connected by some 75 miles of roads and walkways. Over 60 foreign nations exhibited at the fair and all 43 states in the US at the time.

This early Royal Doulton automobile plate titled A Nerve Tonic forms part of The Motorists designs by George Holdcroft in 1906.

Six plates were made for the series, each decorated with a veteran motoring scene. This example depicts two boys on a go-cart tumbling out of the way of a car. The plate has the printed and impressed Royal Doulton lion and crown trademark, which was introduced after the grant of the Royal Warrant by King Edward VII.

Described as in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, it is priced at £165 from Manfred Schotten Antiques in Oxfordshire.
