Held for 35 years, this year’s event on Monday, August 28 will host around 1000 car boots and some 5500 visitors, from which the organisers expect to raise in excess of £15,000 for the local Rotary Club. The Wilton House Car Boot runs for five hours, from 9am-2pm – as that’s 200 boots an hour to be trawled through, the bacon sarnie may have to be eaten on the hoof.

The 18th century Sledmere House, near Driffield in the Yorkshire Wolds, is still in the ownership of the Sykes family, whose ancestral wealth was built on the flourishing Baltic trade in pig iron in the early 18th century.
Every year a car boot is held in Sledmere Park, with the latest one taking place on Sunday, July 16. Some 3500 enthusiastic buyers at these 100-boot events raise between £6000-8000 annually for assorted charities, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Park life
Every year the 6500-acre Cornbury Park Estate at Charlbury in Oxfordshire, home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick which is in David Cameron’s former Witney constituency, hosts the annual award-winning Wilderness Festival.
Cornbury Park also runs plenty of charity events including the Stately Car Boot which this year is on Sunday, September 17 – last year there were 3000 visitors. Monies raised go to ROSY (Respite Care for Oxfordshire’s Sick Youngsters) which pays the salaries of 10 nurses who care for children with chronic and terminal illness in their own homes.
This year pitches must be booked in advance at £50 for a 10ft x 10ft space.
