The 12 x 8in (29.5 x 20cm) drawing, in black and white chalk heightened with red chalk and pink pastel, is monogrammed PL on the left.
The drawing was bought in London in the 20th century by a Frenchman who took it back to the Dordogne region, where it has remained in the same family for several generations.
Various inscriptions and stamps to the front and back extend the provenance further through several English collections: the Richardson Collection, the Richard Houlditch Collection, that of Henry Wellesley (sold at auction on June 29, 1866) and the Fred Locker Collection.
It has an estimate of €12,000-15,000 in the June 13 auction.
