This Victorian bosun’s whistle will feature among an array of maritime lots in David Duggleby’s June 17 sale in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Hallmarked for Hilliard and Thomason, Chester 1897, it is estimated at £150-200. With its high pitch, the bosun’s whistle (or the boatswain’s call) was historically used to pass commands to the crew when the voice could not be heard over the sounds of the sea.

Estimate £200-300.
