On June 29 Sotheby’s (in conjunction with Piasa) will be offering a selection of works from his collection in its Paris saleroom that were retained by his widow Ginette in their Paris apartment until her death last year.
The sale will include works by a host of famous artists and designers associated with the major 20th century design movements but it focuses particularly on sculpture with bronzes by the animaliers Rembrandt Bugatti and Antoine-Louis Bayre and the figural studies by Jules Dalou.
Pictured above is a 5½in (14cm) square bronze of a French bulldog by Bugatti.
The model was created by the sculptor in 1905 and given to his mother as denoted on a presentation inscription on the Hébrard cire perdue cast reading à ma mere, son fils Rembrandt. It passed down through the family until it sold at Drouot in 1981 and then entered the collection of Alain Delon, from which it was sold at Sotheby’s in 1990.
The estimate is €25,000-35,000.
