“The lower value of the pound, thanks to Brexit perhaps, isn’t doing us any harm,” he says. “We have many foreign tourists and trade and even some American container fillers, just like the old days.

“We are selling anything from 19th century furniture to vintage and retro collectables including silver, ceramics, vinyl, vintage fashion, tools and fun items. With a couple of stallholders from France we have regular supplies of French leather club chairs, taxidermy, enamel kitchenware, garden furniture and statuary.

“There is a good market for strange stuff and we sell a lot of decorative pieces: table lamps made from industrial pieces, vintage advertising, medical equipment and so on. We even sell a few antiques sometimes.” Plenty of regular trade customers who do the weekly London markets appear, and “with fresh stock coming in daily I think they find us a useful trade call”.
