The globe is only the second known example of Matthaeus Greuter’s terrestrial globe, which was published in Rome in 1638 by Giovanni Battista de Rossi after Greuter’s death in that year. It features Rossi’s imprint to one cartouche and Greuter’s name to another.

The cartography closely follows Blaeu’s 1622 terrestrial globe but with some significant differences, such as being the first to name New Amsterdam (New York) and the first to record the name of Lake Superior among the depiction of the Great Lakes. Estimate Aus$150,000-200,000.
