A sale of ancient Greek coins from a ‘princely’ collection will be offered for sale at Morton & Eden on May 24 in London.

Included in the 37-lot sale is this silver tetradrachm from the ancient city of Rhegion (known as Reggio di Calabria today) in southern Italy. It dates to c.356-351BC and features a portrait of the god Apollo and a lion’s head.

The coin forms part of Rhegion’s last issue of silver coins and, unusually for the city’s tetradrachm series, uses Apollo’s head as the obverse type when it had been the reverse.

Estimate £40,000-60,000.
