This is the opening text to all the series of Star Wars films, which this month celebrated its first release in 1977 as Star Wars.

It was on release only for a limited period before it won seven Oscars, at which time the original posters for the film were pulled and reprinted with the awards listed.

At the launch of a new mid-century, 20th century and contemporary design show, ARC Eclectic, at Sandown Park, Esher in Surrey from Friday to Sunday, June 2-4, Picture Palace Movie Posters will offer a rare pre-Oscars quad designed by Tom Cantrell at £2500.

ARC Eclectic was dreamed up by two husband-and-wife teams: dealer and design collector Karyn Sparks, managing director and editor of Vintage Explorer magazine, and her husband Jez Speed, plus specialist event organisers David and Val Rokov.

Sparks says: “We wanted to create an event unlike anything else we have ever been to. Our own tastes are very eclectic and we wanted to create a show that broke away from the traditional rules where we could mix up interior trends.

“We are all collectors and dealers ourselves, so this transition represents an exciting opportunity for us to focus on something that we’re all really passionate about.”

The 50-plus exhibitor list includes Nordlings Antik from Stockholm with mid-century design, contemporary glass dealer A Heart of Glass, Forgotten Fabrics, who sell original textiles including some designer pieces, and bespoke furniture maker Bark Furniture.

This rare 1950s patinated brass table lamp, with a Fornasetti label underneath the base and with a modern custom-made shade, has a lithographic print on it of his Strumenti Musicali design and costs £750, or £2500-plus for the enamelled version.

It is available from Molecula Designs at the ARC Eclectic show.
