In a September 13-14 auction held by Alexander Historical Auctions (22.5% buyer’s premium) of Chesapeake City, Maryland, a 13in (33cm) German diameter globe, dated 1941, sold at $65,000 (£48,505).

The globe had been liberated from Hitler’s Bavarian retreat, Berchtesgaden, or the Eagle’s Nest, by Chief Warrant Officer John Barsamian of the XV Infantry Corps of the 7th Army.
