Directed by Robert Bresson (1901-99) the film was released in 1970 with this poster winning an award at the 1973 Cannes International Film Festival.

Poster dealers Orson & Welles will ask £1500 for the poster at Midcentury Modern’s 50-dealer show in east London at Erno Goldfinger’s Haggerston School on Sunday, October 15.

If cult sci-fi film posters are your thing, then Orson & Welles has, priced at £4500, Roger Corman’s 1959 The Wasp Woman which carries the unforgettable lines: “A beautiful woman by day, a lusting queen wasp by night”, and “Strong men forced to satisfy a passion no human knows”.

Next year Midcentury Modern is also holding a pop-up fair at The Hepworth in Wakefield on February 3-4. This £35m gallery, formed around works by local artists Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, was this year voted Museum of the Year by the Art Fund. Midcentury’s Lucy Ryder Richardson said: “We had this seed of an idea to show in or around Manchester or Leeds but had not been able to find a venue we felt comfortable with.

“When we stopped thinking about it, Hepworth Wakefield plopped perfectly into our laps. The gallery asked if we would come to them. We never had to put in a bid. We couldn’t be happier with the collaboration.”
