Signing his name as Smilby (a combination of his and his wife’s surnames), Smith is best known for his regular contributions to Punch and his extensive colour work for Playboy magazine.

Beginning his work with the late Hugh Hefner in 1960, he subsequently produced more than 350 full-page colour cartoons for Playboy.

More than 60 finished cartoons, combining Smilby’s able draftsmanship with his seaside postcard humour, are complemented by works acquired from fellow illustrators LG Illingworth and Vargas.

Estimates will typically range from £100-200 for most cartoons.
