New Designers, an annual sponsored award for the year’s most talented graduate designers, this year attracted 800 hopefuls.

Alexandra’s winning entry was a montage titled The Beauty of Grief – a composition reflecting the journey of a family bereavement.

Since winning the award she has been offered a graduate placement with Sandersons Style Library, the wallpaper and textiles company.

The society’s annual autumn fair, at the Chelsea Town Hall in London on Sunday October 8, has 50 antique and vintage textiles and fashion exhibitors. The event is a honeypot for buyers interested in Near, Middle and Far Eastern and European textiles.

Frivolity in headwear at the annual Textile Society’s fair at Chelsea Town Hall on October 8 comes with this 1940s American hat by designer Laddie Northridge. Handmade from felt and leather, this rarity is available from Stockport-based Julia Jones for £350, who will also be bringing some pretty wild 1960s Dior ‘flower bomb’ hats.
