Ivory details

Coming up at Hermann Historica’s November 6-10/19-23 auction is this pair of Dutch flintlock pistols with ivory stocks, c.1690.

The lock plates, engraved with scrolling foliage, are signed Pomponi. The full stocks are of finely carved ivory with fire-gilt brass noses, and the pommels (detail also above) are carved in the form of Turk’s heads, the hair merging into lion head mascarons. They are estimated at €60,000.
