1. Harry Frier (1849-1921) captured the Somerset town of Taunton in some 600 paintings during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This signed 7 x 10in (18 x 25cm) watercolour of the east side of North Street, dated 1891, doubled its bottom estimate at local auction house Greenslade Taylor Hunt on August 2.

2. The prolific Wigan-born Impressionist James Lawrence Isherwood (1917-89) painted a wide range of subjects, from rural and industrial landscapes to nudes and portraiture. This 18 x 12in (46 x 30cm) oil on board of two New Forest ponies tipped over top estimate to sell at Warren & Wignall in Leyland, Lancashire.

3. This 15 x 22in (39 x 55cm) watercolour is an early work by Katherine Church (1910-99), a Modern British painter with connections to the Bloomsbury Group. Given to the vendor’s mother Lorna Wood, who was a concert pianist in the 1930s, by the writer GB Stern, Patchwork Quilt sold within estimate at the Adam Partridge auction on August 1 in Liverpool.
