The event welcomes collectors but is known also as an ideal place for furnishing and decorating a home.
Running from January 22-27, it brings together more than 150 exhibitors including Gray MCA offering fashion illustrations, Jonathan Hope with tribal art and Holly Johnson offering Mouseman furniture and Fornasetti.
This is the first of three events taking place during the year. Each staging has a special focus, celebrated in the fair’s foyer display and for this edition, fashionable 1950s-60s nightspots are the inspiration. Titled The Cocktail Hour, it will show visitors how to create a space for parties or a modern club room.
Below we feature three items from other dealers standing at the fair.
Wakelin & Linfield
This Italian console table was originally made in the mid-18th century, the base carved with foliate motifs. The top, however, is a later, 19th century addition, painted with simulated flaked marble finish.
“Originally it would probably have had a similar marble top,” says Helen Linfield of Wakelin & Linfield which offers the table. “It’s an interesting and attractive piece. The 19th century simulation of how the marble would have looked is attractive.”
It is offered for £4850 among the dealership’s eclectic selection of furniture and objects from the 16th to the 20th century.
3details
This brass and painted steel floor lamp, 6ft (1.82m) tall, features an astrolabe detail and its original parchment effect lampshade. Made by Maison Arlus in Paris, c.1955, it was documented in the 1955 Journal de l’Ameublement – Meubles et Décors. 3details, which specialises in fine and decorative antiques, offers it for a ticket price of £2900.
Kiki Design
Made with thick, highly polished black lacquer and parchment-covered drawers, this German desk is an Art Deco piece dating to the 1930s or ‘40s. It includes a Bakelite pen tray in the drawer stamped Orga Ges Geschutzt and is offered for £3300 by Kiki Design, which specialises in modern design styled with antiques.
“It has a slightly stepped foot to the base, an elegant feature which gives it more of a profile, an architectural look. It is also very functionals with the side drawers very deep for filing,” says the dealership’s Sarah Roelich.
