Ten are still in use by the Church of England and others now host arts, community and other local events, keeping these historic buildings alive. These include St Gregory’s Church as well as the small All Saints Church, which are both antiques centres in the centre of Norwich.
Two centres
Owned by Robert Charles and Robin Ebbage, and with around 85 dealers in total, St Gregory’s Antiques & Collectables on Pottergate opened in 2013, with the All Saints Antiques Centre & Tea Rooms on Westlegate launching in mid-2016.
Mid-century and period furniture, ceramics and silver, prints and paintings, militaria and kitchenalia and plenty more are on offer in both centres.
St Gregory’s is noted for its wall paintings, which include a huge depiction of St George and the Dragon, supposedly created by a livery stable-keeper. The 19th century stained glass windows in the church were made by a local firm, J and J King of Norwich.
