It was designed in the late 1960s for the Swedish porcelain company Gustavsberg, where Larson had started working in 1954. The lion went on to become one of her most popular figures (particularly in Japan), and this characteristic example is 5½in (14cm) tall and is completed in bisque and yellow ochre.

The figure is offered by Mark Newsom Antiques, which specialises in folk art and modern design ceramics and glass, for £245.

Newsum is one of around 40 participating dealers travelling from across the country to stand at the Burford Antiques Fair in Oxfordshire, which runs from July 28-29. A number of glass and ceramics specialists are taking part and there is a particular emphasis on those areas across all ages at the show. However, visitors will also find furniture, art and decorative items of many varieties.

Dealers include Jupiter Antiques, WR Harvey, Shapiro, Antiques 24, Robert Hawker, Granta Fine Art and Hall-Bakker Decorative Arts.

Organiser Caroline Penman of Penman Fairs says: “Our eclectic range of art, antiques and decorative pieces means there is something for everyone.”
