These insects, along with dragonflies, beetles and grasshoppers, were often depicted in Victorian jewellery, with embroidered butterflies and pins decorating women’s gowns and hats.

It is with dealer and Towy Antiques Fairs organiser Robert Pugh at £45 at Towy’s upcoming monthly antiques event and fleamarket at the Carmarthen Showground on Sunday, July 29. Welsh items, including ceramics, are usually a focus here.

Pugh said: “Our July fleamarket is usually the biggest event of the year in terms of visitor numbers. We have around 200 stands in total, which varies for the outside stalls which are weather-dependent.”
