Drew’s En Route picnic basket sold for £1500 at Woolley & Wallis.
Drew & Sons of Piccadilly specialised in the manufacture of such luxury travel accessories, with this particular model including two solid silver sandwich boxes, kettle and tea strainer (each hallmarked for London 1902) alongside an electroplated stand, burner and tea tray.
To the hinged cover of the wicker basket were instructions on how to attach the basket to the door of a railway carriage.
The most deluxe of these baskets, coveted by vintage car enthusiasts, can bring prices in excess of £5000. This one sold at £1500.
The sum of £2400 was paid for a quite different silver collectable: a set of four Scottish silver Fiddle pattern teaspoons.
The appeal of this modest quartet was the rare marks of James and Patrick Riach of Forres c.1830.
