The 7in (18.5cm) Maquette V: Walking Woman, 1984, with distinctive ‘triangle’ head and trained dress, was cast by Pangolin editions at their foundry in nearby Chalford and was purchased soon after for £2300 by the vendor from an exhibition at Beaux Arts in Bath.

Offered with the original receipt, the sculpture drew keen bidding against a £10,000-15,000 guide and was knocked down to a private British collector for £22,000.

Other pieces from the same edition of nine have sold at auction before, including two at Christie’s South Kensington in 2004 and 2005, for £7000 and £9000 respectively.

Chorley’s result is an indication of Chadwick’s increased value on the secondary market since then.
