The desk, which was priced at £16,900, measured 2ft 8in (81cm) wide and was offered on the stand of Millington Adams. It was among the series of sales the dealership made to new clients.
The fourth edition of the annual fair ran from May 11-13. It included 55 exhibitors such as Flaxman Fine Jewellery, Morgan Strickland Decorative Arts and Wilsons Antiques.
“We were really pleased that everybody’s hard work paid off, reflecting in good sales and with ongoing after-sales,” said fair director Ingrid Nilson of The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited. It was the largest staging of the event to date and visitors were reported from across the UK as well as Europe, the US and Australia.
Flaxman Fine Jewellery sold this Art Deco emerald-cut step-down diamond ring, mounted in platinum at the recent Petworth fair. The English c.1930 ring was priced at £12,000 and included an emerald cut diamond between two smaller sets of diamonds with a total weight of approximately 2.5cts.
“I am impressed with the distance people will come to this fair,” said David Hickmet of Hickmet Fine Arts, who met several clients from London. Among his sales was a cold-painted bronze Austrian figure of a carpet seller by Franz Bergman from c.1900 priced at £2650.
Stewart Abbott of S&J Abbott Ceramics Plus said that this year’s staging was marked by an increased interest in ceramics across a range of periods. “New customers who bought these items came from within 50 miles of the fair. We had existing customers from Wales as well as Hampshire and London. We had no base in the area before the fair.”
The next edition is scheduled for May 10-12, 2019.
