The Salon is an established landmark in the art market calendar.

Small in size at just 39 exhibitors, it punches above its weight by virtue of focusing on a dedicated area and on the range and quality of the works on show.

There are academic elements such as the Salon’s symposia, with lectures delivered by specialists in their field, and interesting loan exhibitions – plus links to a range of museums in the city and Paris region with private visits to their drawing collections.

This all serves to draw in the serious collectors and curators who are a feature of this event.

“Taken together, this reinforces the attraction of the French capital as a drawings destination in spring

Auction houses have increasingly latched onto this fair as a time to sell drawings and both Christie’s and Sotheby’s now reserve this point in their calendar to hold dedicated works on paper sale series in the French capital. Auctions at the Drouot and salerooms such as Artcurial also have an input.

Contemporary drawings are also well served at this time of the year. The 12th edition of Drawing Now Art Fair runs at the same time, from March 22-25 at the Carreau du Temple.

Taken together, this reinforces the attraction of the French capital as a drawings destination in spring and further increases the footfall of customers.
