Indeed, ‘forward’ was the watchword as BADA eschewed nostalgia for its centenary year fair, in favour of showcasing the future of antique dealing. An installation designed by Joanna Wood and Paolo Moschino mixed traditional and modern to good effect.

But some things never change. Preview night was a bunfight as usual with attendees, including Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, rubbing shoulders with other guests.

The Taittinger flowed, seemingly non-stop. “There was a very generous topping up of glasses, which stimulated lots of conversations,” exhibitor Nicola Isherwood of Isherwood Fine Art told ATG. “It’s opening night and you’re hoping for sales, but it’s a very social occasion too.”
