1. This 14 x 19½in (36 x 50cm) watercolour, Brents over Blakeley, tipped over top estimate at Keys of Aylsham on April 27. It was part of a sell-out group of 13 pictures by local watercolourist Hugh Brandon- Cox (1917-2003), whose Norfolk wildlife scenes attract a solid local following.

2. There’s not much in the way of a secondary market for sculptor Lawrence Murley (b.1962), who specialises in carving Cornish serpentine from the Lizard Peninsula. Nevertheless, this 7in (17.5cm) red serpentine frog with inset green eyes from 2014 sold within the £600-800 guide at Penzance saleroom David Lay on April 26.

3. Birds, rather than fish, are what Scottish artist Ralston Gudgeon (1910-84) is best known for, but this 15 x 19in (39 x 49cm) gouache on paper of a leaping salmon found interest at McTear’s of Glasgow, selling towards its upper guide.
