This pocket apple corer by Phipps & Robinson, London 1788, sold at Woolley & Wallis for £200.
One dated London 1819, with engine-turned handle, went on the low estimate at £150 and another, by Joseph Betteridge, Birmingham, 1829 went below expectations at £120.
However, the example by Hampston, Prince and Cattles, who traded together in York from 1796-1804, engraved with a monogram, doubled hopes at £550.
Illustrated above, and entered by a different vendor, was this 4¾in (12cm) long pocket apple corer by Phipps & Robinson, London 1788. It sold to a collector at £200.
