In watch-collecting circles, the name ‘Dirty Dozen’ refers to the highly collectable group of 12 watches worn by British soldiers during the Second World War.
A dozen companies were commissioned by the Ministry of Defence to supply reliable, waterproof and shockproof watches that suited the needs of British soldiers. By 1940, 12 companies had fulfilled the brief: Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex.
