London books dealership Peter Harrington is offering a selection of first editions, presentation copies, and autograph research notes by Karl Marx (1818-83).
Among the highlights are early articles and announcements written for the journals Deutsch-Französische Jahrbücher and Der Vorbote, a manuscript leaf from Marx’s years spent researching at the British Museum and translations of his works into Russian, Italian, Spanish and English.
The first volume of Marx’s most famous work, Das Kapital (1867), was the only one published during his lifetime: volumes two and three were edited and published by Friedrich Engels shortly after he died in 1885 and 1894 respectively. Peter Harrington is offering a complete set of first editions, in contemporary bindings, priced at £115,000.
