Storr created not only simple tableware, but also highly ornate presentation pieces and trophies, among them a service financed by the members of Lloyds Coffee House, precursor of the insurers, which was presented to Admiral Nelson in 1801 to commemorate his victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798.
It is not known who commissioned the 14in (35cm) high tureen with presentoir, weighing 324oz (9190gr), which is coming up for sale at Van Ham in Cologne on November 14 with a guide of €25,000-30,000. The terrine with lion-head handles, dates from 1806-07.
While the original owner is not documented, it is known that the ensemble once belonged to the legacy of the diplomat Paul Graf Wolff Metternich zur Gracht (1853-1934) who was German ambassador in London from 1901-12. Since then it has passed by descent to the current consignor.
