1. Mod Brit painter Anne Brooke (1916-2002) is not widely known despite a number of her native Yorkshire landscapes appearing in public collections. This oil on canvas of the village of Preston-Under-Scar in Wensleydale was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1981. It sold for 10 times the top guide at Duke’s of Dorchester on August 14.

2. This 11½ x 15in (29 x 39cm) watercolour study by Samuel John ‘Lamorna’ Birch (1869-1955) made a multi-estimate sum at Barbara Kirk Auctions in Penzance on August 14. Birch, who is thought to have produced more than 20,000 pictures (many of Lamorna in west Cornwall), exhibited this work at the Fine Art Society in 1922 and inscribed it in pencil A study for my picture Spring at Lamorna.

3. Watercolours by 19th century jockey painter Joshua Dighton (1831-1908) regularly fetch three-figure sums on the secondary market. This 7½ x 6in (19 x 15cm) image, inscribed to the verso Sir Tatton Sykes of Sledmer, Yorkshire in his 90th year. Sat for at Doncaster, 17th September, sold for three times its guide at Dee Atkinson & Harrison on August 10 in East Yorkshire.
