Crisp condition and lots of original finish helped this pair of 40-bore six-shot pepperbox revolvers (pictured top) to £15,000 at Thomas Del Mar on July 10. Made by Westley Richards c. 1850, they were still in their original oak case with some accessories, including a three-way flask and a rammer.

Forsyth is the name when it comes to the development of the percussion lock in England and any good examples of his various early systems will sell at a premium. These pistols were in good condition in a case bearing a Lang trade label.
The auction house had similar hopes for another pair of early percussion guns, a cased pair of pellet-lock pistols by Charles Moore, but those failed to sell.

An unusual cased set of four late 18th century flintlock pistols - £12,550 at Bonhams.
An unusual cased set of four late 18th century flintlock pistols which made £12,550 at Bonhams on May 23. The pair of 24-bore duelling pistols is by the London maker John Twigg and accompanied by a pair of smaller 120-bore Liège boxlock pocket pistols. All are accommodated in a contemporary mahogany case.

These handsome pistols were cased with accessories and both had iron sockets set into the back of the grips for a detachable shoulder stock, but these were not present.
