“The backs of these stands are quite fragile,” dealer Andrew Singleton says. “They were quite likely to get burned – this one has visible burn marks – or broken off.
“Something like this is almost sculptural. It’s a collector’s piece rather than a decorative one.”
The exhibition runs at his Yoxford showroom from December 7-21, though the catalogue is already available online, and more will be added until the show opens.
Objects will range in price from £60-6000.
Despite a slow market recently, Singleton enjoys holding the shows and has already made some sales since launching the latest catalogue.
Among his other favourite pieces are a pair of carvings from Antwerp depicting Mary Magdalene and the Virgin Mary as “weepers” at the crucifixion.
