This early to mid-17th century Dutch or Flemish full-length portrait of a child is valued at £2000-3000 by Adam Partridge in Macclesfield on December 12.
Neither the artist nor the sitter are known but similar versions of the picture exist – one of them the subject of a recent Art UK Art Detective discussion. The rich silk gown and a headdress including an aigrette indicates a possible royal connection.
This large concertina was specially commissioned from Wheatstone & Co, c.1951, with the 64-button arrangement of a Jeffries instrument.
Stamped to one side C. Wheatstone & Co, Inventors, Patentees & Manufacturers, Concertinas & Aeolas, London, it has the serial number 30740 to the other. It has remained in the same family by descent since it was commissioned from Somerset concertina and accordion specialist JA Travers of Enmore by James Henry Harvey, who was a lifetime member and secretary of the International Concertina Association.
The instrument is sold with two letters of provenance to this effect by Gardiner Houlgate in Corsham, near Bath, on December 13 with an estimate of £3500-5500.
