Apart from the 18 bronze racehorses by a variety of different sculptors in this genre on offer at Beaussant-Lefèvre on February 22 (see ATG No 2378), the Millon auction firm is offering an entire range of animal subjects in bronze spanning the 1850s to the present in a dedicated sale titled Bestiare on March 8.
Prominent sculptors in the field are represented including Rembrandt Bugatti, Christophe Fratin, Antoine Louis Barye, François Pompon and Edouard-Marcel Sandoz.
The highlight of the sale is a work by Bugatti: a 1908 model of a crouching lion devouring its kill, the original plaster model for which is in the Musée D’Orsay. The Hébrard cast, in a limited edition of 3 of which this is numbered 2, is guided at €200,000-300,000.
Pictured above is a Louis Antoine Barye work, a bronze model of crocodile stamped Barye which is guided at €4000-6000.
