Among the varied lots offered in a June 20 sale was a 1935 first of The Life of Emmeline Pankhurst written by her daughter, Sylvia.

Showing some tears and loss, but rarely seen in the dust jacket, it sold at what may be a record £550.

Other highlights included The Caged Bird, an ink sketch by Jessie M King. Left unsold on an estimate of £800-1200 when first offered in January, it was this time valued at £400-600 but sold at £2000.

Sold at £1600 was a 1918, Lisbon first of 35 Sonnets by Fernando Pessoa. Loose in original stitched printed wrappers, this was an early self-published work by Pessoa, a committed Anglophile more influenced in his writing by Donne and Shakespeare than by Portuguese writers.
