Three drawings by Queen Victoria will be offered at Cirencester auction house Dominic Winter on July 25 some 50 years after they were last seen on the market.

The depictions of three of the Queen’s children and one of her grandsons, Prince Friedrich (later Kaiser Wilhelm II), were given to the royal governess Sarah ‘Tilla’ Hildyard and sold by her descendants at Sotheby’s in 1968. The vendor purchased the trio at that auction.

This watercolour sketch above depicts Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910), the future Edward VII, and his younger brother Alfred (1844-1900) with butterfly nets against a coastal view of the Solent in the background. It is similar to a drawing of a family scene at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight by Victoria in 1850.

Estimate £3000-5000.
