1. Side plate designed by Dame Laura Knight – estimate £150-200

From 1932-34 Clarice Cliff was the art director for a project involving nearly 30 artists of the day to promote good design on tableware. The most successful of the Artists in Industry wares was Laura Knight’s Circus range. This plate, printed and painted with a crowd of stylised women, is impressed 1934. It is estimated at £150-200 at Woolley & Wallis.

2. Appliqué Etna 265 vase – estimate £2000-3000

“This is a real Clarice Cliff rarity, only the second vase known in this pattern,” says specialist Michael Jeffery. “As the first example at auction, it is will be interesting to see if our estimate proves accurate.” It is estimated at £2000-3000 at Woolley & Wallis.

3. Crocus conical teapot – estimate £200-300

This Crocus conical teapot and cover mixes a modernist shape with the Crocus pattern. Specialist Michael Jeffery says new collectors should note the variance in quality of painting of Crocus, given the large number of artists (70 at one stage) the factory employed. It is estimated at £200-300 at Woolley & Wallis.

4. Orange Secrets Stamford tea for two – estimate £1500-2000

“This Fantasque tea-for-two is 86 years old and has the vibrancy and modernity still relevant today,” says specialist Michael Jeffery. It is in the rarer orange colourway, rather than the more common green. The set is estimated at £1500-2000 at Woolley & Wallis.

5. Conical sugar sifters – estimates range from £150-500

The selection of 13 sugar sifters – which makes the cover of the sale catalogue – ranges from a Crocus example to a rarity in the Solitude pattern that carries some professional restoration. Estimates range from £150-500 at Woolley & Wallis.
